CeBIT 2003. Gigabyte

Gygabyte is well known for its mainboards and graphics cards. But what I want to start with is tiny barebone TA2 systems based on VIA C3 EBGA 800 MHz + CLE266 chipset which will soon hit the market under the G-MAX trade mark:

The TA4 version built on P4 and i845G/GV/GL based mainboards:

Besides, the company is going to commence production of its own line of acoustic systems, as well as LCD displays like this 17" GD1701MLU model framed with transparent plastic:

As the reps told me, it's still questionable whether the new models would get onto our local market as there are no distributors so far. As always, it depends on wants of end-users.

It also concerns Gigabyte's routers which were put on a display.

One more new-comer is MAYA II GV-R9800 graphics card from the new series of Radeon 9800 based products.

At last, here is Radeon 9200 equipped with VIVO, 128 MB memory and AGP 8x.

A couple of words on the new mainboards. Certainly we saw a lot of various boards on new Intel's chipsets - Canterwood and Springdale. For example, GA-8KNXP Ultra based on Canterwood chipset:

Three boards on different Springdale versions - G, P and PE:

and a board assembled on SiS 655/963 GA-SINXP1394 chipset.

There are several solutions on VIA's new chipset KT400A:

At the press conference held at CeBIT Gigabyte drew listeners' attention to the new conception named SEED (Satisfaction Excellence Evolution Difference)

This is a complex covering six (6-Dual Miracle) hardware solutions and three software ones.

Hardware part:

  • Hyper-Threading Technology
  • Dual Channel DDR Technology
  • Dual Power System (DPS) Technology which was talked about in our reviews of Gigabyte's latest boards.
  • Dual Raid Technology which provides SATA RAID + ATA 133 RAID on a mainboard
  • Gigabyte DualBIOS latest Technology for BIOS protection from data losses (accidental or intentional).
  • Dual Cooling function for more effective cooling.

Software part:

  • Xpress Install ensures the fastest and simple installation of all necessary drivers from CD, due to the automatic detection of the hardware section
  • Xpress BIOS Rescue records a BIOS copy on the hard drive parts inaccessible for a user and restores it without user's interference. You don't need to boot from special diskettes or CDs or use a command line. Such solution is cheaper than DualBIOS, and cuts costs of systems supporting this technology
  • Xpress Recovery automatically backs up data and restores them in case of damage or deletion, but it needs an additional area reserved on the hard drive. Its advantage is that you don't need any special tools to restore the system.

Each of these technologies was demonstrated in course of the presentation.

Gigabyte's booth were interesting indeed thanks to a broad range of new solutions.

I hope Gigabyte will stick to such a favorable price policy on our local market, especially because of great many new models.
