But exactly this event might become the most interesting due to the Chinese New Year, celebrated from today. Well, let’s see what Japanese sources have to offer.Let’s pass by the story about Barton releases, prepared by AMD for February, for now as they are close and all the announcements will arrive at their time. In addition, AMD doesn´t deny the possibility of supporting Athlon XP 400MHz FSB that can become another plus for NVIDIA nForce2-based motherboards. AMD has also presented the schedule of HyperTransport Consortium for the next-generation HyperTransport 2.0, which final version, is expected to be released in the end of this / the beginning of next year. According to provisional data, HyperTransport 2.0 will define up to 3-5 Gbit per a physical contact couple throughput. At that 16-bit HyperTransport bus will provide up to 20Gb/s performance, 32-bit one – up to 40Gb/s. The current HyperTransport specs define 1600Mbps per contact performance, up to 1.8Gb/s for 32-bit bus. Last week brought us the extended HyperTransport 1.05 standard, so now consortium members are developing the programme for other companies to easily move to HyperTransport production. HyperTransport version for fiber-optics is expected closer to the year-end.
 The conference also brought information from JEDEC´s DDR II division. Now we know that new-generation DDR will be officially named DDR II, at that DRAM modules will be marked like:
By the way, there was an opinion about DDR400 (PC3200) adoption that the industry is just not ready for DDR II widespreading, mainly due to economical reasons. This makes the intermediate DDR400 really important.
  Micron Technology showcased a working system with DDR II-533 (PC2-4300) memory. According to Micron representatives, which offered detailed information about closest memory roadmaps, in H1 2003 the company plans to release dual-channel modules on DDR333 (2.5-3-3) chips, in H2 – dual-channel modules on DDR400 (2.5-3-3) chips.
 The story from Micron was tied to Intel’s future-generation processor roadmap, in particular, with Intel 875P (Canterwood), Intel 865PE (Springdale-PE), Intel 865G (Springdale-G), expected in Q2 2003, supporting 800MHz FSB and DDR400; and also with future Tejas and 1066MHz FSB. According to Micron, volume production of DDR2-400/533 chips will become actual that time. Next year Micron is to launch the production of dual-channel DDR533 (4-4-4), DDR333 (2-2-2) and DDR400 (3-3-3) modules. The company said that notebooks will start to support DDR2-533 only in H2 2004.
 According to Samsung, the launch of volume production of 512Mb DDR400 modules is scheduled to April 2003. The company plans to raise DDR333/400 production to 50% of all manufacture in Q2 and to 80% by the year-end. Samsung doesn’t expect any serious demand for DDR II for desktop systems until 2004, focusing mainly on DDR400. Infineon announced samples of PC2-5400 memory on DDR II 667 chips.

 Some details about Intel Springdale and Canterwood chipset series Taiwanese press, referring to industrial sources, informs that according to the latest production trends, volume shipments of Intel’s new-generation 800MHz FSB chipsets — i865 (Springdale) and i875 (Canterwood) – are to start before the official announcement, in March.As we’ve mentioned before, Intel plans to release solutions supporting 533MHz and 800MHz FSB. It’s interesting that both i865 and i875 series are expected to feature special RAID-enabled products, costing $3 more than non-RAID versions.

Gainward releases two graphics cards on GeForce FX Gainward released two graphics cards on NVIDIA GeForce FX. Gainward FX PowerPack! Model Ultra/1000 Plus "Golden Sample" (GeForce FX 5800 Ultra) features 500/1000MHz GPU/memory clock; Gainward FX PowerPack! Model Ultra/800 Plus "Golden Sample" (GeForce FX 5800) — 400/800MHz clock, respectively. Both boards have 128Mb 2.0ns DDR2 memory, support VIVO (Video-In/Video-Out; NTSC/PAL output) and low-noise (7dB) cooling system. More powerful model is also bundled with FireWire (IEEE-1394) controller and 5.1-ch. soundcard with SPDIF as well as a number of games. Gainward FX PowerPack! Model Ultra/1000 Plus "Golden Sample" MSRP is 649 euro, Gainward FX PowerPack! Model Ultra/800 Plus "Golden Sample" MSRP — 549 euro (VAT).
Acer announces new AL716 — 17" LCD monitor Acer announced new AL716 — 17" LCD monitor – which sales should start in Japan in February. New 17" device features 1280x1024 SXGA display with 0.264 mm pixel pitch, 250 cd/m² brightness, 500:1 contrast, 20 ms response time and 130° vertical and 160° horizontal viewing angle. Besides, the monitor features analog input, built-in speakers (2x1.1W). Measured 374x204x394.5 mm and weighing 5.9 kg, the monitor will cost about $415 in Japan. Source: PC Watch
Melco presents 160Gb enternal HDD Melco informed about the release and sales of new DIU2-B160G 160Gb hard drive with USB2.0/IEEE 1394 interface, costing about 46500 yens ($372). Matsushita Electric releases new Let´snote products Matsushita Electric released two new mainstream Let´snote LIGHT and Let´snote PRO notebooks along with limited consignments of Panasonic Let´snote PRO R1 and Let´snote PRO T1 on the base of the former. To mark the series anniversary, the improved Let´snote CF-R1MEAXP (about $1800), also featuring B5 form-factor and 10.4" 1024x768 XGA LCD panel, now weighs 30 g less, i.e. just 930 g. Besides, it bases on 933MHz ULV Pentium III-M (Intel 830MG), features 1.8" 20Gb HDD (instead of 2.5" one), 512Mb RAM, Windows XP Professional (SP1). Measured 240x183x37.2 mm, the model can work up to 5 hours using battery.
 CF-R1MCAXR (about $1650), similar to CF-R1MEAXP, differs by 128Mb RAM, (up to 384Mb), 2.5" 20Gb HDD and IEEE802.11 WLAN interface. The limited consignment of notebooks to be sold from the company website will feature 256Mb RAM, 2.5" 40Gb HDD and WLAN interface.
 Let´snote LIGHT T1 serie also includes four different models. One of them (about $1600), weighing 930 g, is provided with 1.8" 20Gb HDD, 933MHz ULV Pentium III-M, 12.1" XGA panel, 512Mb RAM, IEEE802.11b WLAN interface. Other models weigh from 999 g to 1.07 kg, feature same CPUs, 128 to 512 Mb RAM, 20-40Gb 2.5" HDDs and various interfaces. Prices for new Let´snote LIGHT T1 models are within $1500-1700 range. Verbatim announces 4x DVD+R media Verbatim announced shipments of 4x DVD+R media. New 4x DVD+R blanks feature Advanced AZO coating from Mitsubishi Chemical Media (Verbatim’s parental company) – an improved version of Metal AZO used in 2.4x media. Naturally, new 4x blanks are backward compatible with 1x/2.4x DVD+R recorders. New products are expected in retail in February in 5/10-unit Jewel Cases. Besides, the company will release a specially-coated version for ink printing. According to provisional data, Verbatim will start shipping 4x DVD+RW media in May 2003.
