Today Intel released new 3.06GHz Intel Xeon processors on Prestonia core with 1Mb L3 cache and 533MHz FSB for 2-way servers and workstations. The CPU is designed for general Web hosting servers, data caching, search engines, security systems, multimedia broadcasts, high-performance computing as well as DCC/CAD/CAM/etc. workstations. The new processor is fully compatible with Intel E7501 server and Intel E7505 workstation chipsets. Shipments have already started. In over 1,000-unit quantities CPU costs $690.
Sharp announces PC-MV1-VC3 notebook on Athlon XP-M 1600+ Sharp expanded its MURAMASA series with PC-MV1-VC3 model to arrive for sale on July 26 for slightly over $1500. It differs from the previous PC-MV1-VC1 notebook by Athlon XP-M 1600+ CPU (instead of Athlon XP-M 1500+), S/PDIF out and 3-hour vs. 2.6-hour operation. The novelty has 256Mb RAM (up to 768Mb), 40Gb HDD, 12.1" LCD, internal DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo, Ethernet LAN, 1 x PC Card Type II slot, 2 x USB2.0 ports, 1 x IEEE1394 port, Windows XP Home Edition. Sized 282x239x26.4~28.7 mm, it weighs about 1.96kg.

"At the time of purchase, I was aware of the FX5600 revision and inquired as to the revision of the card / GPU, stating that the newer GPU was much faster and I didn’t want to be stuck with the old one. They told me that there was only one revision of this card, and that they had just got them in. "Foolado" me, decided to take a chance and order it. Unfortunately, they were wrong and when the card arrived it turned out to be the older 5600U core. In fact it turns out there are 2 versions of the Gainward 760XP and the newer one does have the 5600U core, and a Firewire card is bundled with it also. "

Samsung launches volume production of 1Gbit DDR SDRAM chips Korean Samsung Electronics launched the volume production of 1Gbit DDR SDRAM qualified by Intel. Chips are made on 12" wafers using 0.10µm process.Available for DDR266 and DDR333, chips feature x4/8/16 architecture. As for modules, the product list includes 4Gb registered DIMM on 36 TSOP2 chips for servers/workstations/mainframes and 2Gb unbuffered desktop DIMM and notebook SO-DIMM. According to The Digitimes, 1Gbit DDR SDRAM chips are made at Line 11 Samsung’s 12" line used for volume production. According to Samsung, referring ot Gartner Dataquest, in H2 2003 sales of 1Gbit DDR SDRAM chips will make $900 million, with already $2 billion in 2004 and $12.1 billion in 2007.

Kensington introduces a Wi-Fi Finder Kensington introduced some unique device – a Wi-Fi network finder. Sized like a trinket, this one-button novelty will indicate if there’s any sense in trying to connect your notebook to a wireless network here, or you should continue searching for an access point somewhere else. The device recognizes 802.11b and 802.11g networks within 60m from the signal source. Its three LEDs indicate signal power filtering out signals from mobile handsets, Bluetooth, etc. Sized 74.9x9.9x55mm, Wi-Fi Finder is shipped by Kensington under 1-year warranty.
