ASUS introduces P5RD1-V motherboard on ATI Radeon Express 200P

According to the source referring to ASUSTeK, the company introduced the new P5RD1-V ATX motherboard on the yet unannounced ATI Radeon Express 200P chipset.

Radeon Express 200P is claimed to support Intel Pentium 4/Celeron D (while Radeon Express 200 series is said to be meant for AMD K8 CPUs — "P" is for "Pentium"). They also claim that chipset integrated graphics performs on the level of RADEON X300 GPUs.

The board supports 800/533MHz FSB, up to 4GB of PC3200/2700 DDR SDRAM, has 1 x PCI Express x16, 3 x PCI Express x1, 3 x PCI slots, 4 x Serial ATA (RAID 0, 1), 2 x Ultra ATA/100, HD Audio, USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, PS/2 and VGA interfaces. The Southbridge used is ULi M1537.

ATI unveils RADEON X300 SE graphics and HyperMemory technology

ATI Technologies officially unveiled its new HyperMemory technology which resembles NVIDIA TurboCache. The innovation is called to minimize the cost price of entry-level graphics cards.

The idea of HyperMemory is to store a part of information about frame buffer, textures, etc. in the system shared memory instead of the local. Thus addressed via PCI Express x16 shared memory "virtually" widens card´s bus and memory capacity. For example, a 32MB of 64-bit memory is claimed to look good on the background of 128MB of 128-bit memory.

For desktop systems ATI offers two cards: RADEON X300 SE 128MB HyperMemory and RADEON X300 SE 256MB HyperMemory:

RADEON X300 SE 128MB HyperMemory 256MB HyperMemory
GPU RV370 SE RV370 SE
Local memory 32MB 128MB
Bus width 64-bit 64-bit
Memory organization 4M x 32 BGA 16M x 16 TSOP
# of memory chips 2 4
Core / memory clock 325MHz / 300MHz 325MHz / 300MHz

The novelties are based on 110nm RV370 SE GPU with 4 pixel and 2 vertex pipelines and 325MHz core. The reference RADEON X300 SE 128MB card has low-profile design, so it lacks DVI-I:

The GPU and two BGA memory chips are cooled passively. The MSRP of RADEON X300 SE 128MB is $59.

HyperMemory is also supported by ATI chipsets and mobile GPUs:

MOBILITY RADEON X300

  • MOBILITY RADEON X300 128MB HyperMemory
  • MOBILITY RADEON X300 256MB HyperMemory

MOBILITY RADEON X600

  • MOBILITY RADEON X600 128MB HyperMemory
  • MOBILITY RADEON X600 256MB HyperMemory
  • MOBILITY RADEON X600 SE 128MB HyperMemory

RADEON XPRESS 200 (AMD processors)

  • RADEON XPRESS 200 64MB HyperMemory
  • RADEON XPRESS 200 128MB HyperMemory
  • RADEON XPRESS 200 256MB HyperMemory
  • RADEON XPRESS 200M 64MB HyperMemory
  • RADEON XPRESS 200M 128MB HyperMemory
  • RADEON XPRESS 200M 256MB HyperMemory

Pretec announces 1GB Pretec i-Disk Aqua and 133x Secure Digital media

Pretec announced the new 1GB Pretec i-Disk Aqua and 133x 256/512/1024MB Secure Digital media.

Being similar to the previous Pretec i-Disk Tiny Luxury, the new Pretec i-Disk Aqua differs by simpler design and the lack of packaged software (which one can download from company website). The novelty is positioned for the mainstream market.

The new 133x Pretec SD media support throughputs up to 20 MB/s (twice as much as older 60x SD provide) due to the new "dual-channel" controllers and 16-bit architecture (also used in the recently announced Pretec i-Disk Tiny 166x USB drive).

ATI RADEON X700 AGP cards to go on sale soon

Following the official release of RADEON X800 XL and RADEON X850 XT AGP 8x graphics cards Chinese ZOL published information about similar, but lower-end products — RADEON X700 AGP.

Unlike its PCI-E analog, such a novelty has additional 4-pin power connector. This seems strange first, because 110nm RV410 GPU doesn´t consume much. Besides, RIALTO bridge that, unlike NVIDIA HSI, is located on the back side doesn´t require additional cooling, which indirectly points at its low energy consumption:

But the matter is that PCI Express x16 can offer additional 75W of power required for normal card operation. AGP, in its turn, can´t do this.

Cards feature large (and presumably silent) coolers with heatsinks that cover memory chips as well and maybe cool them as well:

4 x GDDR3 256 Mbit chips from Infineon support 2ns fetch time and make the total of 128MB. Besides, the design leaves space for another 128MB. But the bus still stays 128-bit wide.

The new cards feature D-Sub, DVI-I and S-Video connectors. The RV410 GPU they are based on provides rather humble features: 8 pixel and 6 vertex pipelines, 475MHz core clock.

Speaking of market position, these AGP novelties will the lower price ranges replacing old RADEON 9800 products.
