Transcend Releases 0.72" 1GB DDR400 ECC Registered Memory Module

Transcend Information released its new, very low profile (0.72") 1GB DDR400 ECC Registered memory module (P/N: TS128MDR72V4VL). The very low profile makes the new modules particularly suited to height-restricted computing systems, such as the IBM Blade Center LS20 servers.

Transcend's 1GB DDR400 ECC Registered memory module consists of 18pcs of 128Mx4 DDR FBGA chips and features the six-layer PCB.

The modules are backup by lifetime warranty.

Iomega's ScreenPlay Multimedia Drive Makes PC Obsolete

Iomega announced the new Iomega ScreenPlay Multimedia Drive, a portable hard drive with built-in multimedia playback capability that makes it a digital media jukebox for photos, songs and video files that can be used with virtually any television or A/V system.

The ScreenPlay Multimedia Drive is an external hard drive with audio and video outputs, built-in multimedia playback capability, and a set of DVD-style playback buttons.

Measuring 5.20" x 3.07" x 0.70" (132 x 77.2 x 17.8 mm), the ScreenPlay Multimedia Drive uses on-screen TV navigation to help users select a video, song list, or slide show. Since the ScreenPlay drive comes with its own wireless remote control, menus are easy to navigate from across the room.

There's an USB 2.0 port; outputs include NTSC or PAL analog video (using composite or S-Video connectors) and analog stereo audio (using RCA connectors).

When connected to a computer's USB 2.0 port, the ScreenPlay Multimedia Drive operates like a normal 60GB hard drive. When connected to a TV or A/V system, the ScreenPlay Multimedia Drive becomes a kind of a media jukebox. It streams video formats directly to TV via its S-Video or composite video connectors; compatible formats include MPEG-1 (AVI, MPG, DAT), MPEG-2 (AVI, VOB), and MPEG-4 (AVI, XviD). It also can handle JPEG photos of up to 8 megapixel resolution, motion JPEG files at 15 or 30 frames per second (digital camera movies), and MP3 digital audio files.

The ScreenPlay Multimedia Drive is compatible with Pentium III-class or equivalent processor or higher running Microsoft Windows Win98/SE, Me/2000/XP Home or Professional. It is also compatible with Mac OS X (10.2) or higher.

The new Iomega ScreenPlay Multimedia drive is now available for a U.S. suggested retail price of $219.95.

ASUS Introduces P5WDG2-WS On Intel 975X Chipset

ASUS introduced the Main Station Motherboard Series and the P5WDG2-WS model based on the Intel 975X chipset supporting Pentium D and Pentium Extreme Edition 955 dual-core processors. The novelty is meant for high-end computers and workstations.

The board has two PCI Express x16 capable of ATI CrossFire dual-graphics card function and native dual-channel DDR2-800 support up to 8GB. The P5WDG2-W2 comes equipped with two PCI-X slots, two PCI slots, two IEEE 1394a ports, eight USB 2.0 ports and eight Serial ATA-II 3Gb/s ports for establishing two sets of RAID.

The novelty also features the proprietary Stack Cool 2 fanless cooling solution. ASUS claims it effectively transfers heat generated by the critical components to the other side of the specially designed PCB for effective heat dissipation. And that the result is a temperature decrease of up to 20 degrees Celsius.

The board utilizes 8-Phase Power Design also aimed at reducing heat (at least 15°C, according to the press release). It reduces input ripple current and output ripple voltage, which keeps CPU and VRM (voltage regulation modules) from suffering the risk of high power stress. It's said to have the advantages of quick transient response and stability, especially beneficial when CPU requires more current immediately under heavy loading or overclocking mode.

According to Japanese sources, the board costs about $295-335 in retail.

Specifications:

  • Intel Pentium Processor XE 955 / Pentium D / Pentium 4 / Celeron
  • Intel 975X + Intel ICH7R chipsets
  • 1066/800MHz FSB
  • 4 x DIMM, max. 8GB, DDR2 800/667/533, ECC and non-ECC un-buffered memory
  • 2 x PCI-E x16 (Dual graphic running @ x 8 speed), 2 x PCI-X, 2 x PCI 2.2
  • Dual Gigabit LAN
  • 8 x Serial ATA 3 GB/s ports
  • 2 x IEEE 1394a
  • 8 x USB 2.0 ports
