Aeneon Releases High-Performance DDR3 SO-DIMM

Aeneon, the partner of memory manufacturer Qimonda, released new high-performance DDR3 SO-DIMM modules for Intel Centrino 2 based notebooks.

According to the sources, Aeneon was one of the first to introduce 1GB and 2GB DDR3-1066 SO-DIMM modules.

New offerings feature 1Gb chips, 7-7-7-21 timings, 1.5V voltage, and are energy efficient.

Volume shipments are scheduled for this August. Aside from DDR3, Aeneon is also offering DDR2-800 SO-DIMM (AET860SD00-25D).

Optimus Pultius, a Younger Brother of the Famous Keyboard

As we all remember, the interest towards Optimus Maximus keyboard nearly ceased after its release. All willing purchased that original OLED-key solution. And the rest, having got to know everything they wanted, turned to other innovations.

Naturally, that couldn't please the creators of Maximus, so now there's another concept keyboard to be released late this or early next year.

Optimus Pultius is an add-on unit of 15 OLED keys that can be used with any usual keyboard.

While no pricing information is available at the moment, we doubt this novelty will be cheap — as you remember, a Maximus keyboard featuring 10 OLED keys cost 599 USD.

ATI and NVIDIA Accused of Collusion

A class suit was filed against NVIDIA and ATI (now AMD). According to it, about 5 years ago the aforementioned companies colluded to fix prices. In particular, there's an email in case records proving that such cartel deals were a usual thing in the graphics card market.

In other words, NVIDIA and ATI, perhaps, coordinated their actions to make a semblance of competition — at secret meetings representatives of both companies negotiated price levels, release dates and other actions. Such pseudo competition allowed them to increase sales and revenues, acting as a single monopolist.

Images show clearly how behavior of NVIDIA and ATI changed with time. The upper chart shows price difference between comparable cards. The lower chart shows the difference in release dates. The first area on both charts is Pre-conspiracy, the second is Conspiracy, the third (a very brief period) is Post-DOJ Subpoena.

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

In sum, suits (that were merged into one) were filed by 51 parties. Moreover, it was discovered that collusion also took place in DRAM, flat panel and CRT markets as well.
